Providing services for his patients in his private practice, Şahin answered the questions of Ankara Life Magazine.
Which patients in particular apply to you?
I take care of all my patients who have complaints about obstetrics and gynecology. Of course, mostly our patients come with pregnancy follow-up and pregnancy request. Used in pregnancy follow-up; I do tests such as four-dimensional ultrasound, detailed ultrasound, double scan, quad scan, NST in my practice. We have agreements with many private hospitals in Ankara, and when the time comes for our patient's birth, I have the delivery done in whichever hospital he prefers. Apart from this, we also treat couples who want to get pregnant. There are laboratories that we have contracted with, where we have infertility tests done. In the treatment of infertility, I do the ovulation follow-up and vaccination in my practice, and I do the IVF treatment in the IVF centers that we have contracted with. I help women with all kinds of gynecological problems such as infections, fibroids, cysts, masses, menstrual irregularities, menopause.
What are the common misconceptions about gynecological diseases?
First of all, young girls are afraid to come to us. He tells me that there is nothing to be afraid of and I do their examination without hurting them. We already evaluate the examinations of single women with ultrasonography performed on the abdomen. There is also a misconception that transvaginal ultrasound is inconvenient in pregnancy, if this examination is done properly, there is no harm.
When should a pregnant woman come for the first examination?
In fact, a woman who is considering getting pregnant should consult a doctor 2-3 months beforehand. What to do before pregnancy; There are some tests such as blood count, hormone, smear and folic acid supplementation should be started. When pregnant, regular doctor follow-up should be made. In the first weeks of pregnancy, that is, until the gestational sac and then the baby's heartbeat can be seen, frequent doctor checks may be required. After sitting on a certain course, we find this second month and we start monthly check-ups. There are some tests that need to be done every month, we follow them. After completing the eighth month and entering the ninth month, the checks become more frequent. When it's time to give birth, my patients can reach me at any time since my phone is open 24 hours a day. Depending on the health status and desire of each patient, we perform one of the normal birth, painless birth (epidural), cesarean section procedures. We also have check-ups after birth.
In which periods should a woman who thinks she is healthy go to the gynecologist?
No matter how healthy we think we are, annual gynecological examination is important. Early diagnosis of some problems is possible thanks to these examinations. Every woman should have the smear test (cervical cancer screening test) done once a year. Apart from this, I recommend that women over 40 should have an annual breast examination.
Finally, is there anything you want to say?
My ideal has always been to provide the most comfortable and quality service to my patients by allocating enough time. For this reason, I keep the examination period as long as possible in order to listen to my patients' complaints and plan their treatment. I also attend congresses and symposiums in order to follow and apply current professional developments.
If everyone loves their profession and tries to do it in the best way, our country and society will reach a higher level.
